Real Sticker Shock and Government Aid
+ Intriguing little tidbit found in a Gannett piece on college costs:
…For-profit schools have lower sticker prices than private non-profit colleges, but median debt was higher for bachelor’s degree recipients at for-profit schools ($31,190 vs. $17,040).
Debt seems to represent a recurring theme.
+ The Associated Press has this lengthy report about for-profit colleges “feeding from the trough”, so to speak.
…Neutral experts say the United States will indeed have to tap the for-profit sector if it’s to meet the president’s goals.
“As we see these cutbacks across the country, we really do need the capacity this sector represents,” said Patrick Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.
But, he added: “Somebody ought to be paying attention to it, that’s for damn sure.”
Some of us are paying attention.
