Coursera introduces MOOC specialization certificates.  Students complete a series of courses and are then eligible participate in a culminating project-based capstone course.  Some of the participating “big name” universities include Johns Hopkins University, Duke University and Rice University.  Prices start at $250.00.

University at Buffalo, The State University of New York:  Master of Education in English Education and a Master of Education in Music Education.

Free or low cost, MOOCs

University of Maryland, College Park: “Programming Mobile Applications for Android Handheld Systems”. According to the report,

Students will be able to complete the course within eight weeks online; for approximately fifty dollars receive a certificate acknowledging their accomplishment.

The University of Texas at Austin, Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas’ now offers a MOOC entitled, “Social Media for Journalists: The Basics.”  The course will be held from February 3 to March 9.

Wake Forest University (NC) offers a free, 3-week Mini-MOOC on digital publishing starting Feburary 4th.

The World Bank offers a free online course on climate change beginning January 27th.

 Via the Coursera Signature Track series, University of Pennsylvania will offer free online, first-year MBA courses.   A certificate of completion is available for successful completion.  Cost = $49.00 per course.

On a related note,  Northwestern University (IL) offers a MOOC through the Coursera Signature series called “Understanding Media by Understanding Google” for $39.00.

It appears MOOCs are evolving into an outstanding low-cost value.
