Interesting info from Louisiana Tech University

August 03, 2010 By: Paul Category: State Colleges and Universities, Unique Online Degree or Certificate Comments Off on Interesting info from Louisiana Tech University

We recently received this information from the fine folks over at Louisiana Tech University. More info should soon follow concerning additional opportunities.

At a time when many Louisiana business schools are shrinking their programs, Louisiana Tech’s Executive MBA program is expanding and growing.

Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business started its Executive MBA program at the Technology Transfer Center in Shreveport in January 2009. The inaugural class of students will complete their last of four terms this fall and will graduate in November 2010.

With the success of the EMBA-Shreveport program, a second cohort of students will begin classes in January 2011. Applications are currently being accepted.

The EMBA was expanded to Monroe in January 2010. This class of 23 students will complete their program in December 2011, at which time a second cohort of students is expected to be enrolled in Monroe.

I ask that you share this information with those who you believe could benefit from our Executive MBA program. Information on our EMBA programs can be found at http://www.business.latech.edu/emba/ or you may contact Dr. Sean Dwyer, EMBA Director (email: dwyer@latech.edu or phone: 318-257-3584).

Louisiana Tech’s Executive MBA program differs from its campus-based MBA program in several key ways. First, enrollment is limited to those who have significant managerial and business experience. As such, student interaction during classes is a large part of the learning experience, allowing the executives to share their insights and experience with their classmates.

Secondly, classes are held on alternating weekends on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The program takes less than two years to complete, with breaks in December and the summer months of July and August. Finally, the EMBA curriculum places greater emphasis on leadership skills, strategic thinking, and management decision-making. Simply put, it is designed to make our students more effective managers.

If you or someone you know would like to know more about our Executive MBA program, please contact us at your soonest convenience.

Naked Law: “8 Reasons College Tuition Is the Next Bubble to Burst”.  The punchline:

…”3) For profit colleges are paying homeless people to take out federal loans to enroll

Because student loans are so easy to acquire, enterprising colleges are paying homeless people to enroll. The math makes sense when you think about it: if paying someone a $2,000 “stipend” gets the college $20,000/year in tuition courtesy of the federal government, that’s money well spent. Unfortunately, many people who accept such “stipend” offers never graduate, become overwhelmed with student debt, and destroy their already bad financial records.”

A vicious circle, without a doubt.
